The Fresenius Kabi and Calea nursing team presented three posters at the National Nurses Nutrition Group (NNNG) conference in Bournemouth in July 2017.
The training audit poster won a highly commended award. This poster, presented by Ros Howarth, Francesco Scoditti and Jo Elston, outlined the details behind an audit of training patients to administer their own Home Parenteral Nutrition (HPN). The audit found that 27 visits is a realistic and achievable amount of time to train with most patients. The audit also showed that training can be achieved quicker when clinical protocols have fewer steps.
One poster presented by Jayne Gledhill and Mandy Hill outlined a process mapping audit that was completed to improve the patient journey. Outcomes from this audit include the development of additional training material, enhanced pre-discharge information and named nurses for each nursed patient on Home Parental Nutrition (HPN) and Intravenous Immunoglobulin (IVIG).
The final poster presented by Michelle Wilson, clinical governance manager, provided an overview of an innovative service improvement, the implementation of clinical governance champions across the UK. The team of nurses were selected from our field nurses and are responsible for supporting the reporting of clinical governance incidents in a timely manner, and for implementing the lessons learned with our wider, national nurse team, who are also involved in clinical audit.
The posters will all add to the development and continuous improvement of the Fresenius Kabi and Calea nursing service. The team will be working in partnership with the NHS over the next 12 months to further develop the posters into articles and further research projects.
