Fresenius Kabi UK and Calea UK held their first national nurse awards day in January to celebrate the achievements of the dedicated nurses across the UK in Manchester.
The categories were nurse manager of the year and national nurse of the year.
The event was held in memory of Carol McCabe who sadly lost her battle to cancer last year. Carol was a registered nurse and nurse coordinator who spent a period of time working as one of our bank nurses at the same time as being a patient care coordinator for 16 years. Carol always made time for people and she was instrumental in setting up new driver training.
Carol was caring, professional with a wonderful sense of humour. Her 4pm giggles were legendary. Carol built a great rapport with her patients.
Carol loved going on holiday and by the end of January she’d generally booked her allowance for the coming year. Carol loved to dance and was always first on the dance floor and last to leave it. Carol loved to spend time with her family also spending time at the ‘club’ with her friends.
The company values were at the heart of the awards and each category winner was awarded based on their customer focus, integrity, passion and commitment, collaboration, quality and transparency.
The winners of each directorate were congratulated before announcements of the national winners.
The winner of the Manager Category was Alison Healeas for delivering the paediatric nurse training programme ahead of schedule.
The winner of the national nurse category was Rebecca MacMillan for her customer focus throughout hospice and hospital training in Enteral Nutrition.
Overall the whole day helped to share some stories of best practice across the nursing team and celebrate the hard work, commitment and determination of the last year.
Kate Kelly, Head of Nursing said ‘It was a pleasure to present the awards to the much deserved nurses who were nominated, runners up and winners. I am proud to work with such a dedicated team of nurses who are committed to patient care and continuously enhancing our services. I am looking forward to seeing the projects and work to come of the next 12 months and to celebrating more winners next year.’
